MiCD Study Club

Collaborative, professional learning units intended to promote MiCD Care
among professionals and the public

| Introduction

Running a dental study club can be a rewarding way to promote professional development, knowledge sharing, and networking among dental professionals; it is where they come together to enhance their knowledge, skills, and professional development in the field of dentistry.

Hence, establishing MiCD Study Club is intended to provide a platform for dental professionals to engage in continuing education, case discussions, networking, and the sharing of best practices based on “MiCD Care” which can be organized at the local, regional, national and even international level.

| MiCD Care

It is a mindful approach to Do No Harm Dentistry founded on the Vedic Smile concept of “holistic care, good operator, right protocol and smart technology” to achieve Vedic LIFEstyle, optimal functional health, beauty and glamour with positive psychological outcomes in the best interest of the patient, by promoting a happy Consumer-Employee-Owner (CEO) relationship in dental practice.

| MiCD Study Club

It is the collaborative, professional learning local unit of the MiCD Global Academy intended to promote the “MiCD Care” among professionals and the public. The club provides a Safe, Organized, Fair and Transcendent (SOFT) platform for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) through education, fellowship, professional networking and knowledge philanthropy activities.

| Goals of MiCD Study Club

Keeping in view the universal benefits of MiCD Care, the MiCD Study Club focuses on the following four major goals to help clinicians becoming MiCDians (Good Dentists)

  1. Competency: Competency is the fundamental criteria of an MiCDian. The Club should focus on enhancing knowledge, skills and attitudes related with professional competencies of their members. The program should focus on including suitable continuing dental educational activities such as lectures, case presentations, hands on training, live demonstration, case discussion, journal review, clinical based research, critical thinking and so on. The club should encourage a collaborative learning environment so that members can develop an interest for the subject matter and a passion for lifelong learning. Not just in dentistry, but also in other areas like healthy lifestyle, nature, culture, etc.
  2. Compassion: Dental services without compassion is harmful for both providers and receivers. Lack of compassion develops emotional disharmony, which ultimately decreases the overall satisfaction in the long run. Therefore, MiCD Care emphasizes on providing compassionate services through dentistry. The clubs should provide all possible opportunities to its members to learn and enhance their level of compassion through supportive and collaborative learning approaches.
  3. Health: Every profession has its own unavoidable occupational risks and hazards. Dentistry is no exception. The club should make their members fully aware about occupational hazards and risks in dentistry, which include exposure to blood borne pathogens, sharp instrument injuries, ocular and hearing problems, neuromuscular disorders, cross-contamination, dental material allergies, mercury poisoning, radiation hazards, chemical injuries, etc. Some problems, if proper care is not taken may even cause the death of dental personnel. Hence, the learning activities of the club should incorporate professional health and safety education, and maintenance of overall healthy lifestyle. Members should completely understand that “health is wealth”, and the health of a professional absolutely matters in MiCD Care.
  4. Happiness: Happiness and professional self-satisfaction is the major goal of any professional. However, work stress is the key component that easily destroys the professional happiness of a person. Dentistry is a profession well-known for its association with psychological stressors (e.g., managing time, staff, patients’ behaviors), pressure of financial sustainability, emotional exhaustion and work-burnout that lead to compromised happiness and professional self-satisfaction. Hence, Vedic LIFEstyle practice is encouraged in MiCD Care education and services. The club should include activities related with professional mind and stress management, like yoga, charity work, group traveling, etc.

MiCD Study Club, a SOFT platform is anticipated to provide the following for the members to help them apply in their clinical practices:

  • Become - GOOD CLINICIAN
  • Choose- RIGHT PROTOCOL
  • Incorporate -SMART TECHNOLOGY
  • Deliver - HOLISTIC CARE

Furthermore, topics of interest must be planned based on following MiCD Care Philosophy and Clinical Framework, embracing the mantra of “Do No Harm Dentistry”:

  1. Vedic LIFEstyle Dentistry - It is a promotive and preventive domain of the MiCD care, which focuses on the essences of Vedic LIFEstyle, where the LIFE stand for: L= Living habits modification; I = Inflammation and Infection control; F= Functional Harmony; E = Emotional awareness, that all help to contribute towards Quality of Life (QOL) of a person through dentistry. Various oral health promotion activities and necessary preventive therapy should be carried out, based on a person's “LIFE” analysis.

Some of the key promotive and preventive knowledge and skills set that are necessary to embrace Vedic LIFEstyle Dentistry in practice are:

    • Living Habits Modification
    • Smart Oral Care
    • Mind, Body and Bite Connection : Concept & Therapies
  2. Functional Health Dentistry - It is a curative and rehabilitative domain of MiCD Care, which emphasizes on managing pain/discomfort, treating diseases/defects, and restoring a healthy mouth with harmonious function. It places high emphasis on minimizing biological, financial, time and emotional costs of the treatment and recognizes the potential impact of oral health in Quality of Life (QOL).

To achieve an optimal functional health through MiCD Care, continuing skill development, teamwork and necessary collaboration with dental/medical specialists is highly recommended. To support MiCD Study Clubs in designing the CPD activities for the functional health dentistry domain, the Academy recommends the following knowledge and clinical skills set to study, experience and apply in the practice:

    • MiCD Dental Occlusion
    • MiCD Direct Composite Resin Restorations
    • Minimally Invasive Endodontic-MIENDO
    • MIDI-Short Dental Implant
    • MiCD Orthodontics
    • MiCD Tooth Wear Management
    • MiCD Functional Oral Rehabilitation
    • Teeth, Muscles, Joints and Airway ( TMJA) Harmony
  3. Aesthetic and Cosmetic Dentistry – It is the beauty and glamor domain of MiCD Care, focusing mainly on improving the beauty and glamor of a person's smile and overall facial aesthetics. Aesthetic dentistry is a nature-mimetic and “need based” treatment to help restore natural beauty and aesthetics of teeth, gums and lips.

However, cosmetic dentistry is a “desire based” treatment which may not directly enhance oral health as such, but is chosen by individuals for their self-satisfaction. Hence, in MiCD Care, aesthetic and cosmetic treatments are carefully chosen to lower the biological cost as much as possible.

To support MiCD Study Club members in selecting suitable beauty and glamor dentistry training, the academy has designed a comprehensive curriculum and package, the Smile Makeup Course, and has approved the following beauty and glamor dentistry related CPD based skill-training modules.

    1. Smile Makeup Style Design & Photography
    2. Smile Makeup Aligner
    3. Smile Makeup Whitening
    4. Smile Makeup Resto
    5. Smile Makeup Veneer
    6. Smile Makeup Aroma
  4. Dental Practice Management – Practice management refers to the strategies, systems, and processes involved in running a dental practice. Special focus should be on clinical safety/quality care, financial success and overall satisfaction of Customers, Employees and Owner (CEO). This domain encompasses a wide range of administrative, clinical, operational, and mind management subjects that ensures good dental practice.

To help the club members embrace a “GOOD DENTAL PRACTICE” based on MiCD Care philosophy and Clinical Framework, the academy has developed a comprehensive “HAPPY CEO-Dental Practice Management” course with following CPD based skill-training modules:

    • Practice Philosophy in Dentistry
    • MiCD Standard of Care
    • Return on Investment with Ethical Dental Practice
    • CEO-Satisfaction & Experience Appraisal in Dental Practice
